According to Halifax's latest house price index, UK house prices rose 1.3% during December. With the average price of a UK home now standing at £163,845.
Halifax also noted that house prices in the final quarter of 2012 were 0.6% higher than in the previous quarter and over the course of the year the prices had fallen by 0.3%. Martin Ellis, Halifax’s housing economist, said that house prices were not likely to change much during the course of 2013.
During 2012 the market showed a modest pick-up in activity. It was revealed that home sales rose from 75,000 in July to 80,000 in November.
"We expect continuing broad stability in house prices nationally in 2013 with prices likely to end the year at levels close to where they begin,” Ellis said.
